Antimicrobial Photothermal Treatment of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa by a Carbon Nanoparticles-Polypyrrole Nanocomposite

Background: Nowadays, it is needed to explore new routes to treat infectious bacterial pathogens due to prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Antimicrobial photothermal therapy (PTT), as a new strategy, eradicates pathogenic bacteria. Objective: In this study, the antimicrobial effects of a carbon nanoparticles-polypyrrole nanocomposite (C-PPy) upon laser irradiation were investigat...

Moving forward with reactive oxygen species involvement in antimicrobial lethality.

Support for the contribution of reactive oxygen species (ROS) to antimicrobial lethality has been refined and strengthened. Killing by diverse antimicrobials is enhanced by defects in genes that protect against ROS, inhibited by compounds that block hydroxyl radical accumulation, and is associated with surges in intracellular ROS. Moreover, support has emerged for a genetic pathway that control...

Reactive oxygen species treatment in the management of wounds

Bacterial and fungal biofilms are a significant problem in many clinical settings particularly wounds and soft tissue lesions by virtue of their increased tolerance towards conventionally prescribed antimicrobials (Percival and Bowler, 2004; Davis et al, 2006; Dryden et al, 2017a). Antibiotic use in such conditions (chronic wounds, burns, certain surgical sites, prosthetic devices, chronic resp...

Chemical Changes in Nonthermal Plasma-Treated N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) Solution and Their Contribution to Bacterial Inactivation

In continuation of our previous reports on the broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity of atmospheric non-thermal dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma treated N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) solution against planktonic and biofilm forms of different multidrug resistant microorganisms, we present here the chemical changes that mediate inactivation of Escherichia coli. In this study, the mechanism and ...

Antimicrobial Activity of Chitosan Film Forming Solution Enriched with Essential Oils; an in vitro assay

Background: The resistance of the bacteria and fungi to the innumerous antimicrobial agents is a major challenge in the treatment of the infections demands to the necessity for searching and fi nding new sources of substances with antimicrobial properties. The incorporation of the essential oils (EOs) in chitosan fi lm forming solution may enhance antimicrobial properties. Howe...
